Report: Eagles Showing Interest In Jake Long
The Eagles are one of the teams showing interest in Dolphins offensive tackle Jake Long, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said today during a SportsCenter segment.
Long (6-7, 319) turns 28 in May. The four-time Pro Bowler and former No. 1 overall pick (2008) has dealt with some injury issues and missed six games the past two seasons.
Dr. James Andrews performed surgery to repair Long’s ruptured left triceps last season, according to Yahoo Sports. He’s also dealt with a biceps, shoulder and knee injury in the past two years.
“I asked him about his knee and he said it’s the best he has felt in years,” Andrews said recently. “Like I said, this is the kind of kid you want. I’m not worried about him at all.”
According to Schefter, the Bears, Rams and Dolphins (re-sign) are also interested in Long.
How would he fit in with the Birds? Long would likely take over for Todd Herremans at right tackle, and Herremans would slide inside to guard. That would give the Eagles a potential offensive line of Long-Herremans-Jason Kelce–Evan Mathis–Jason Peters.
A lot of potential there, but a lot of question marks too. Four of the five (everyone but Mathis) would be coming back from a season-ending injury. Long could also fill in at left tackle if necessary. Peters is coming off of an Achilles’ injury (and subsequent re-injury).
As always, a big key here will be money. There had been reports that Long was seeking $11 million per year, but there’s a good chance nobody’s going to pay him that much.
Long has started 74 games in five seasons. He did not miss a game in his first three years in the league.
Players are allowed to officially sign with new teams at 4 p.m.
