Forget the teeth-staining orange, grape and cherry twin pops of Philadelphia childhood. The cream and fruit bars at Kennett Square’s La Michoacana have only their wooden sticks in common with those sugar-water snacks. Crafted in the kitchens of this small State Street storefront, these Mexican-style popsicles are simply the store’s house-made ice creams and fresh fruit puree formed into vibrant frozen treats. The flavors you expect are here — vanilla, strawberry, cookies-and-cream, to be dipped in chocolate and dotted with nuts to order — but those that Mister Softee doesn’t stock are the ones that most deserve your attention: fragrant guava, earthy sweet corn, mild cucumber.
