Here’s A Photo Of A Phoenixville Bride’s Wedding Cake Inspired by A Philadelphia Wedding Story
We just love this story!
For our fall/winter 2011 issue of Philadelphia Wedding, our friend Eileen Gray, owner and baker over at the Cake Art Studio in Paoli, created this fab button-covered cake (pictured above) for our story “Sew in Love,” which featured cakes inspired by the various visual aspects of sewing—stitching, piping, lace, ric rac, and lots of other fun stuff.
Over the spring, she had filled us in on this funny little anecdote: This past winter, Eileen was taking part in a bridal show at the Phoenixville Foundry when she started chatting with a bride who was getting married there. The bride told her that she already knew exactly what cake she wanted, that the cake had, in fact, inspired the whole theme of her wedding, and, as she got out a picture of it on her smartphone, asked Eileen if she thought she might be able to reproduce the cake in question.
She then showed Eileen a picture of her very own design. “I just laughed and told her, ‘Sure, since I actually made the original,'” says Eileen. “We had a good laugh. Our coming together at the bridal show was just a happy coincidence.”
Fast forward to this past weekend, and the wedding was here! Eileen delivered the cake to the Foundry—half vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and half lemon cake with lemon curd and lemon mousse filling—and snapped this picture so that we could see the result. They tweaked the color scheme a bit to match the navy-and-moss theme of the wedding, and added an extra layer so as to feed all the guests. (That cake is pictured below.)
“I’ve had brides mention that they’ve seen my cakes in magazines, and they’ll often use pictures for inspiration, says Eileen. “But this was the first time I’ve had a bride show me a picture of one of my cakes and ask for the exact cake. And it’s the first time I’ve had a bride tweak her theme to match the cake. ”
We hope that every page of every issue inspires you, our brides, and gives you loads of ideas for your own Big Day—and it just warms the cockles of our hearts to hear of the magazine helping out a bride so directly! It makes us so excited as we’re putting together our upcoming spring/summer 2013 issue, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.
Is there an idea for your own wedding that you took directly from a magazine or website and had a vendor reproduce? Other ones that gave you a jumping-off point for inspiration?
