Paralyzed Rutgers Football Player to Receive Jimmy V Award at the ESPYS
Eric LeGrand—the Rutgers football player who was paralyzed during a 2010 game against Army—will be honored at the 20th annual ESPYS in July. LeGrand will attend the awards show and accept the Jimmy V Perseverance Award. After his injury, LeGrand was told he’d be a quadriplegic and would need to remain on a ventilator to breathe. He’s since been able to breathe on his own and stand with the aid of a frame. He also resumed his studies and is on the radio covering and analyzing Rutgers football. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by his former coach Greg Schiano, who is now the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. [Washington Post]
