If you suddenly have an overwhelming urge to wear a lot of green, you have choices far beyond whatever Target has in its “here are some shirts of local sports teams” section. Locally made choices with cheeky graphics, throwback vibes, and even — dare we say it — a touch of fashion. Plus, you can grab many of them around town right now, so you’ll be all ready to go this weekend.
Underdog Apparel

Inspired by his epic 2018 Super Bowl championship parade speech, Jason Kelce recently launched the Underdog apparel line, a gender-neutral collection of t-shirts, hats and bags — all designed, printed and packaged in Philadelphia — that nod to that undeniable Philly spirit (and to the Eagles, themselves). Sorry, but we’re leading off with a bit of a tease, because the above-pictured shirt sold out nearly as quickly as the Eagles’ Christmas album (also featuring Kelce!). But don’t worry: There are plenty of other designs available (including another directly quoting his speech), and they’re planning on restocking the “Whole Team” collection. An added bonus? One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Underdog apparel collection will go to Kelce’s (Be)Philly foundation, which funds and promotes evidence-based programs that help Philadelphia students achieve and excel — the foundation’s first two beneficiaries are Coded By Kids and PFSS, the newly combined Philadelphia Futures and Stepping Stone Scholars.

Eric Kenney’s often-macabre (think lots of Grim Reapers) designs got an Eagles nod with his “Take the NFC East” t-shirt, giving medieval levels of gore. It’s perfect for those who take “Bleed Green” literally. He also made a new “All Roads Lead to Philly” design for the playoffs, but the tee has already sold out. Keep an eye on his Instagram for restocks.

The bell has a football-shaped clapper — how cute is that? Jennifer Basile’s new collection launches online on January 21st, so it’ll be too late to order for this playoff round, but check out her Instagram to order her distressed spray-dye designs in the meantime. “It’s surreal seeing all the amazing Philadelphia sports fans wearing my clothing at games and tailgates,” says Basile, whose day job is a sixth-grade literacy teacher. “I never thought this is what I would be doing.”

When you walk into this small Midtown Village shop, you can immediately see it’s the real deal — seats from the old Philly ballpark from which the store gets its name are there, along with other Philly sports memorabilia, including a life-size Gritty portrait made of jellybeans. For those feeling nostalgic, it doesn’t get much better than Shibe’s Veterans Stadium graphic tees and hoodies, memorializing the concrete hole the Eagles once called home. Another Shibe original design: A punny nod to Jalen Hurts. Shibe also carries non-exclusive items by brands like Junk Food and 47. You’ll feel like you’re back in the basement playing QB Eagles in Tecmo Bowl. And for all you Main Liners, they also have a second location in Wayne.

Dye Hard Fan
If you want to support the Birds but not be too obvious about it, go for some stylish tie-dye designs by Dye Hard Fan. Their “So Good It Hurts” top is especially subtle (and timely), and we love the “Philly Philly” and “Bird Gang” ones more. Even better: Their stadium-compliant see-through crossbody bag. Buy some “Where did you get that?” gear on Dye Hard Fan’s website, or check their Instagram to find them at local makers’ markets.

“You want Philly Philly?” Immortalize that fateful Super Bowl call with a t-shirt of the play itself. Conshy-based artist Stephanie Harvey calls her gray-and-black design “ideal for a fan who prefers ‘quieter’ game-day gear.” If you require some green in your Eagles attire, she also made a slightly less subtle “Bird Gang” shirt (plus a tie-dye toddler tee and doggie bandana). You can find her products on the exit343design website, but if you’re in a rush to get a shirt for this week, Old City’s Philadelphia Independents carries both adult t-shirts we featured.

Look closer at Paul Carpenter’s swooping green eagle graphic, and you’ll realize its “feathers” are actually the Philadelphia skyline. Carpenter’s designs always have those little extra homages that double down on the Philly love. You can find the graphic on t-shirts, hoodies, onesies and tanks (not to mention pint glasses) on Paul Carpenter’s website. If you need it sooner, head to Open House in Midtown Village.

Whether you’re proclaiming your love for Wawa or the citywide special, you just can’t go wrong with South Fellini’s irreverent, retro-themed Philly stuff. And when it comes to Eagles gear, they’ve got jokes, references and throwbacks that’ll make you smile. Their most iconic item is probably their pompom beanie emblazoned with “No one likes us, we don’t care” from Kelce’s Super Bowl parade speech. To complete your cold-winter ensemble, they have matching scarves. They also have some old-school Vet shirts, a “Super Jawn” champion tee, and lots of gear celebrating that time Princess Diana wore an Eagles jacket. You can buy it all on their website and at their East Passyunk storefront, but you’ll quickly find that lots of local boutiques carry some of South Fellini’s irresistible items, too.

With how big they’ve gotten, it seems crazy to think of Mitchell & Ness as a local brand, but they started here in 1904 and have been going strong for decades selling authentic vintage jerseys and other apparel. Nicole Rae Styer reworks vintage tees within an inch of their lives with alterations, bleach-dying, and more techniques that make her one-of-a-kind creations sell faster than she can make them. If you see something you like at the shop (or on her Instagram), act quickly, or someone else will snatch it up (and look effortlessly cool). You can also bring your own well-loved Eagles gear in for custom alterations to make them into something new.

Something we haven’t discussed yet is the distinction between licensed gear and, let’s say, “Eagles-inspired” stuff; if you find a cute shirt, you don’t really care to get into the intellectual property weeds.
