6 Newish Ways to Shop Eco-Friendly Products in Philly Now
From a zero-waste shop in South Philly to cherry wooder ice soap.
Philly’s eco-friendly scene is on the rise. Here, a look at some of the latest, and best, additions.
Betting on Zero Waste
Opened this fall by Emily Rodia and Jason Rusnock, East Passyunk’s Good Buy Supply is dedicated to plastic-free home, kitchen and bath alternatives. “Over the years, we became interested in the low-waste movement and saw the need for a storefront like this in Philly,” explains Rodia. Their offerings include all-natural bath bombs, beeswax food wraps, and a bulk bar of pretty refillable soaps and candy-esque toothpaste tablets. Goodbuysupply.co.
A Brief Moment
Fashion designer Eleanor Turner, who cut her teeth at Tory Burch and J.Crew, launched The Big Favorite in Philly in November. The brand debuted with a line of unisex undergarments — a clothing category that typic-ally can’t be resold or donated — ranging from $13 and $25, made of high-quality pima cotton and produced in a circular process (meaning zero waste goes to landfill). Cue happy dancing in your (super-soft) new basics. Thebigfavorite.com.
Self-Care
Taralyn Freda’s new NoLibs wellness sanctuary, Nirvana Health & Beauty, is staffed mostly by specialists laid off from Rescue Spa amid the pandemic. Their 80-Minute Dry Brush Massage ($160) is touted to improve skin tone, exfoliate, and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Added eco bonus: They use a fresh bamboo dry brush for each client, so you get to take yours home after your service. Nirvanahealthandbeauty.com.
