SoulCycle Is Launching Daily Outdoor Classes in Ardmore
The open-air cycling classes will be "Silent Disco" style with headsets.
Great news for all you SoulCycle devotees: SoulCycle is bringing their studio experience outdoors to Ardmore. The relaunch this week will be the first time they’ve run classes in the Philly area since they closed their doors on March 16th due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ardmore classes will be located on the third floor of the parking garage at Suburban Square. (You’ll find the garage at the opposite end of Suburban Square from where the brick and mortar SoulCycle studio is.)
Though, yes, it’s odd to be taking one of the most high-end (and highly priced) cycling classes of the fitness world in a parking garage, we appreciate the ingenuity. These classes, though welcome as a sort-of return to “normal,” will come without the spa-like, boutique extras riders have come to expect at most of their studios — think expensive hair dryers, showers with sweet-smelling bath products, towel service, and toiletries like Q-tips and hair ties.
But hey, if you love the class, you love the class. And many Philadelphians and suburbanites alike absolutely love the flow, style, and rhythm of the class in general — and the personalities and styles of our local instructors in particular.
The new program, SoulOutside, will include the signature 45-minute indoor cycling class outside seven days a week for the next six weeks, with a full lineup of rides led by popular local instructors, including Nick Turk and noted Taylor Swift super fan Ryan Lewis. The classes launch this Thursday, August 27th, so book fast if you want to get reserve a bike in the near future. (Classes are $32 and packages can be purchased online.)
For COVID-19 safety, bikes are spaced six feet apart and masks are required in all indoor and outdoor common areas — that means face coverings must be worn any time you’re not clipped into your bike. Riders will use SoulCycle-provided headphones, silent disco style, to ensure strong sound quality while outside — and refrain from annoying other people in the neighborhood. The headsets will be sanitized between uses with disinfectant. (If you would rather bring your own headphones, you can — but note that they must have a 3.5mm mini connector in order to be compatible with the audio system.) You can read more about their new safety standards here.
The new Ardmore SoulOutside is one of five locations in Long Island, NY; two in Boston, MA; one in Santa Monica, CA; and one in Hoboken, NJ. The current plan is to launch this new initiative for six weeks with an option for an extension — stay tuned for what happens after that six weeks is up.
