Just Listed at the Shore: Contemporary Bayfront in Margate
Actually, a recent makeover has made it contemporary only on the outside. But its abundance of windows and vaulted ceilings still gives this house a modern feel.
Some people prefer beaches. Others would rather go boating on the bay.
Some people love sunrises. Others go for sunsets.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature has set things up so that you can’t have bayside sunrises or sunsets on the beach at the Jersey Shore, or just about anywhere else on the East Coast, for that matter.
So if you, like me, absolutely adore watching the sun sink below the horizon, your choice in Shore housing will lead you to the bay side of its barrier islands.
This week’s featured Shore house, a Margate contemporary bayfront house for sale, is one of the nicer bayfront houses I’ve run across.
Built in 1985, this deceptively compact-looking contemporary got a total makeover in 2017 courtesy of its new owner. That owner’s tastes run towards the traditional, but the remake goes classical in a way that doesn’t overpower this house’s modern soul.
Then again, it would be awfully damned hard to overpower the soul of a main floor with a soaring vaulted ceiling and a striking spiral staircase as its central architectural feature.
That staircase separates the two-story-high dining room from the one-story living room. What the living room may lack in visual drama it makes up for with the great view of the bay through its floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors.
Off the main living area to its right are two rooms. One is the upgraded kitchen, with traditional cabinetry, up-to-date appliances, and big windows that let you take in the bay view while you cook.
The other is the den, which you can close off for privacy with its sliding barn door. It too has sliding doors that open onto the wraparound, split-level main deck.
You will enjoy spending those warm summer days when you’re not out in your boat on this deck, which features a fire pit and a bar and has plenty of room for a grill. The boat slip that extends from the deck has room for both jet skis and multiple boats.
For a more private bayside experience, you can always retreat to the primary suite upstairs. Its cathedral-ceilinged bedroom also has sliding glass doors that open out onto its own private deck. It also has a sitting area overlooking the bay.
The primary suite bathroom also has a cathedral ceiling with a skylight over its Jacuzzi tub.
Not only will you commune with the water here, you will commune with nature too. This house sits at the north end of Bayshore Drive, right next to an 80-acre wetland preserve.
Of course, as you would for just about any waterside house at the Shore, you will pay for all these privileges. But compared to what all this might run you elsewhere, this contemporary bayfront house for sale in Margate is a bargain.
