A funny thing happened on Thursday at 11:50 p.m., in the midst of unspeakable trouble and woe. With the shadows gathering, with the bad guys thriving and the little guys dying, while the poor went hungry and the rich got fat, the big wheel kept on turning, and the universe did what the universe does, and the Earth sliced neatly in two like a celestial peach. Life and death balanced on a knife’s edge, and out of the darkness, demons came dancing and heroes came bouncing and lovers kept singing, and their song was the same song that every spring breathes: Again. Again.
