On the Market: New Construction Townhouse in Rittenhouse
Yes, you read that right: The facade is all that remains of the townhouse that had occupied this site. Behind it is a masterfully built new house.
This house for sale in Rittenhouse easily qualifies as the Best Facadectomy of 2019.
The developer-builder of this stunning new townhouse had built it intending to move into it himself. But changing circumstances led him to move elsewhere and put it up for sale himself.
What he did, explains agent Suzanne Cawley of Black Label Keller Williams, was this: “He propped up the facade, and every single stitch from there back is all brand new.”
Yet even though it’s completely new, it respects the history reflected in the facade in several of its details.
One of those is the banister on its staircase, which wraps around a light well topped by a skylight.
Another is the choice of cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. All of them are traditional in style.
Everything else about this house for sale is modern in form, however. That includes the marble-surrounded gas fireplace in the living room, the faucets and fixtures in the bathrooms, and the wine fridge, microwave, Wolf range and Bosch refrigerator in the kitchen.
Some other nice extras found in this house are the tread lights on the staircase, the high ceilings in the finished basement, and the ample closet and storage space everywhere.
Not to mention the roof deck with its great view of Center City. A dry bar with wine fridge in the master suite hallway also serves the deck. There’s also a small balcony off the second-floor rear bedroom.
All of this lies just one block from the Avenue of the Arts, one from the South Street West restaurant strip and four blocks from Rittenhouse Row.
As the photos should make clear, the builder spared no expense in creating a striking modern residence. You might still be able to enjoy this happy accident (see below).
