Just Listed: Ultra-Modern Townhouse in Fishtown
"Rowhouse" seems just a touch too common to use to describe this one-of-a-kind Fishtown residence designed by the architect behind some of this city's most popular restaurants.
We have no idea whether or not Teddy Sourias, the brains behind Craft Concepts Group, was the person who commissioned this truly original residence in Fishtown as his home.
But we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he had, for the architect who designed this looker is Lance R. Kraemer Associates. That’s the firm that has given us four Sourias spaces: Brü Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn, Tradesman’s, and Cinder (since replaced by the oh-so-Instagrammable Blume).
Kraemer’s domestic work is as creative and stunning as his restaurant interiors. While his firm has done some work in a traditional idiom, it appears most at home working in the language of modernism.
And this house for sale speaks it eloquently. Its design maximizes outdoor space: in addition to the spacious rear patio, it has four outdoor balconies and a roof deck. The outdoor spaces break up the monotony that characterizes so many modern facades hereabouts.
Its split-level main floor enables a garage to be tucked under the kitchen. It also creates a high-ceilinged living room.
Its floating main staircase, suspended by wires running the height of the house, truly lives up to the term.
The architect also spared no expense in the choice of materials: the solid wood artisan-crafted front door, for instance, cost $5,000 to build. You’ll find Carrara marble in the master bathroom and on the kitchen counters.
The spacious rear patio has an attractive Spanish-inspired tile pattern as well as lots of greenery.
Two of its four bedrooms feature pillow ceilings, and a third — listed as a den — has a tray ceiling.
And not only is it high-style, it’s high-tech too. It comes equipped with a Control 4 smart home automation system that controls everything from the lights to the thermostats to the blinds to the big-screen TVs.
With all this style and all these features, you might just opt never to leave this fabulous, spacious house for sale. But it would be a shame if you did, for you’d be denying yourself such pleasures as Lloyd Whiskey Bar, Kraftwork, SLiCE Pizza, Kopi Latte and a slew of other eateries and shops just steps away from you on Girard Avenue. Frankford Avenue, also close by, offers even more.
