Just Listed: Renovated Rowhouse in Fishtown
This classic two-story rowhouse got a makeover that blends traditional and contemporary elements.
Good morning! We begin this week with a feature in our occasional, unlabeled series “Why It Pays to Stage Your Empty House.”
The reason you rarely see photos of empty rooms on this site is because one of the hardest things for a potential buyer to do is fill those rooms with their imaginations. If they could do that easily, most of the home design and decor magazines would cease publication, and HGTV would lose its audience.
And the way a house is staged also sends a message about what the owner considers its personality (or its owner’s).
Either the stager or the owner of this house for sale in Fishtown has a great eye for vintage furniture.
And the vintage furniture is perfect for this house because it complements the mostly traditional makeover it got a decade ago.
But like the renovation, not everything here is strictly traditional.
Yes, there are built-in bookshelves and wainscoting in the main living area, but a contemporary sectional sofa fits right in along with the more ancient pieces.
Meanwhile, the kitchen has a pure contemporary look, and a nicely executed one too thanks to its gray cabinetry with blond wood trim.
The antique pieces upstairs also remind us that this house has been around the block a few times. But at the same time, more modern furniture — like the Shaker-inspired bed in this bedroom — would not look out of place at all.
It certainly doesn’t in the spacious patio in the back. This space looks great as it is, with its wood fencing and brick wall, but a little more greenery and paving stones would make it look even greater. (And the city might just pay you for the upgrade too.)
This little looker is not only attractively staged, it’s attractively located just off Frankford Avenue, behind Neumann North Senior Housing and around the corner from Palmer Park. Frankford Avenue’s restaurants, coffee houses, bars and boutiques are just about at your doorstep; so is Berks station on the Market-Frankford Line, a six-block walk away. The Route 5 bus on Frankford Avenue is even closer.
