This Chestnut Hill Dermatologist Has a Surprisingly Simple Skincare Regimen
Everything Dr. Nazanin Saedi (aka Dr. Naz) does to keep her body and skin in tip-top form.
Who I am: Nazanin Saedi (Dr Naz, @drnazsaedi), 37
Where I live: Chestnut Hill
What I do: I am a dermatologist at Thomas Jefferson University. I specialize in cosmetic dermatology and dermatologic surgery. I am also a mother of two boys, Aiden (5) and Sammy (2).
What role healthy living plays in my life: As a physician, I try to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I have always been an athlete, so it is important for me to stay in shape. Being married to a cardiologist, being heart healthy is important. I also need to be in shape to chase after two active boys. Lastly, taking care of my skin is key as a dermatologist.
Health memberships: Peloton ($30 per month), Balance Bfit weekly, and Sculpt360 weekly
Monday
6 a.m. — Wake up. This is actually sleeping in for me! Mondays are my academic days. I usually work from home. I have a cup of coffee – Whole Foods’ breakfast blend is my favorite. I catch up on emails and anything I fell behind on over the weekend.
6:45 a.m. — Quick shower and morning skincare. I wash my face with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, a pink grapefruit cleanser with salicylic acid. It is great for acne-prone skin but also refreshing in the morning. Then I apply SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. Vitamin C is excellent for protecting against sun damage. Next, I apply Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 for my sunscreen. It also helps even out skin tone. I use Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Anti-Aging Renewal Therapy for SPF and highlighting my eyes. It makes everyone look more awake!
7 a.m. — The boys wake up — we love the Mirari OK to Wake! Alarm Clock & Night-Light for getting them up on time (but not too early). We all eat breakfast together. I usually have plain Skyr yogurt with granola from Baker Street Bread Co. in Chestnut Hill. Get kids ready for camp.
8 a.m. — Leave the house for camp drop-off.
9:30 a.m. — I take a Sculpt360 Class, which is excellent for strength and core training. I don’t do enough of that if I’m just working out on my own. I always have pink grapefruit salicylic acid Neutrogena Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes in my bag to use after workouts.
10:15 a.m. — I eat a banana and drink some water. Then I shower and start working. I have lectures to work on, papers and book chapters that either need writing or editing, and conference calls scheduled.
12:30 p.m. — Lunch! I eat a Whole Foods mix with some avocados on top.
3 p.m. — Camp pick-up.
4 p.m. — Swim practice for my older son
6 p.m. — Dinner. I usually have a salad with a form of meat on top (salmon, chicken breast, steak), and today’s no different. I have never been into diets or fads but try to eat in moderation.
8 p.m. — Kids are asleep. I catch up with my husband and also emails from the afternoon
9:30 p.m. — Wash my face with Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser. I make sure all of my makeup is off. Apply SkinBetter Science AlphaRet as my retinoid. It helps increase cell turnover and leads to smoother skin. I apply the peptide Alastin Skincare Restorative Skin Complex. This TriHex technology builds collagen and elastin and helps with sun damage. Lights out.
Tuesday
5 a.m. — Wake up. Coffee and emails.
5:30 a.m. — I do a 30-minute class on my Peloton bike. I love Robin Arzon’s classes. I also do 15 minutes of Peloton stretch or yoga.
6:30 a.m. — Shower and get ready for work.
8 a.m. — Work. These are my surgery days. I remove skin cancers on the body and face as well as benign growths like lipomas and cysts. Before Dr. Pimple Popper, I feel like most people didn’t know what these were. Now most patients are fascinated and want to watch.
Wednesday
5 a.m. — Wake. Coffee and emails.
5:30 a.m. — Peloton. Another 30-minute class. Some of my other favorite instructors include Ally Love and Emma Lovewell. I finish off my workout with 15 minutes of stretching on the Peloton or yoga.
6:30 a.m. — Shower and get ready for work.
8 a.m. — Work. This day is for longer procedures like threading for skin tightening and lifting and laser resurfacing. I always do multiple treatments on the same day.
Thursday
5 a.m. — Wake up. Coffee, emails, revise papers, work on talks. The work never ends!
6:30 a.m. — Shower and get ready for work.
8 a.m. — Work. On Thursday and Fridays, I see a few general dermatology patients in the morning but the rest of the day is all cosmetic procedures. This includes: Botox, injectable fillers, sclerotherapy for leg veins, lasers for fat reduction, skin tightening devices, lasers for treating redness and sun damage, and lasers for hair removal and lasers for removing tattoos. There is so much variety.
Friday
5 a.m. — Wake. Coffee and emails.
5:30 a.m. — 30-minute ride on the Peloton plus 15 minutes Peloton stretch or yoga.
6:30 a.m. — Shower and get ready for the day.
8 a.m. — Work. My day is similar to Thursday.
6 p.m. — Friday is a family night! We usually go out for dinner with the kids in Chestnut Hill.
