It’s been over a year since we first heard that West Philly’s Dock Street Brewing Co. would expand across the Schuylkill with a second brewery and restaurant in a revamped Point Breeze auto shop and warehouse. Now, Dock Street South is ready to go, with an opening this Wednesday, August 14th.

The 10,500 square-foot space at 2118 Washington Avenue is part brewery and part neighborhood restaurant, with a 550 square-foot lounge and a 3,000 square-foot “mess hall” dining room open to the public. The modern-industrial space seats 120, with nautical and neon design touches plus artwork by artists located in or within a few miles of Point Breeze on display. The bar, made with live-edged silver maple, offers an additional 24 seats.

As part of the expansion, Dock Street brought on Philip Breen, a Starr Restaurants alum, as director of operations, while chef Peter Pray, formerly of Vintage Wine Bar, is heading up the kitchen at the South Philly outpost.

Pray’s menu will feature rotisserie meats and Mediterranean and European-inspired small plates, with an emphasis on the cuisine of Sicily, where president and co-founder Rosemarie Certo is from.

One thing you won’t find at Dock Street South? Pizza. (Don’t worry, you can still get it at the West Philly flagship.) However, the new location will serve coffee and espresso drinks, pastries, bagels, and small bites every morning.

In addition to draft wine and cocktails made with Pennsylvania spirits, the bar at Dock Street South will feature 12 rotating house-brewed draft beers as well as hand-pumped cask options. Customers will be able to purchase canned and bottled beers to go.
