This Racquet Club Wedding Really Took the Theme and Ran With It
But in the cutest possible way.

The classic Racquet Club of Philadelphia wedding of Marielle Young and Matthew Goldberg was picture-perfect — and really played up the theme of racquets with some adorable details, all designed by EVOKE Design & Creative over the course of two years. Marielle is a local from Wynnewood, and Matt is from Columbus, Ohio, but the two actually met through mutual friends when we they were both living in Washington D.C. They went out for a fancy dinner for their first date (which the next day they saw had a health violation, which they still laugh about.) “Matt was witty, easy to talk to, and fun to be around,” Marielle remembers thinking. Matt remembers her as being “Marielle was charming, smart, and beautiful.”
They dated for a year before getting engaged in a wonderful way: they were traveling in France, and driving through picturesque lavender fields. They pulled off the road to take a picture. “Because there was no one around we set up a tripod and Matt used a remote control to take a picture,” remembers Marielle, “He checked it and said it was blurry and we should take it again. He proposed and, I realized later, we got photos of the whole thing!” They were engaged for two years. Marielle started business school right after they got engaged they waited until after graduation to get married.
In June, they threw a beautiful wedding at the Racquet Club of Philadelphia, celebrating their love with 160 of their friends and family. Cute details were aplenty: the place-cards for dinner were actually small envelopes. Inside each one the couple wrote individual notes to their guests. “It was nice to take a moment to express what each guest meant to us and how grateful we were to have them in our lives before the actual wedding,” says Marielle. The florals included peonies, garden roses, spray roses,, ranunculus, and other soft shapes with a softer green foliage, lending a lighter and airy feeling to the storied venue.
They danced the night away (their first dance was to the classic ”It Had To Be You”) and the guests enjoyed wedding cake: a lemon pound cake filled with lemon curd and raspberry buttercream. After the celebrating, they went on a honeymoon to St. Lucia. Later, they returned to their home in New York, New York, where she is an associate brand manager at Johnson & Johnson and he is a product manager at Zola.
