Philly Under Code Orange as Heat Wave Continues
You might want to avoid going outside on Monday.

If you thought the temperatures on Father’s Day were stifling, just wait. A heat wave that started this weekend is expected to get even worse on Monday.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Philadelphia region (including Bucks, Chester, Montgomery and Delaware counties) from noon through 8 p.m. on Monday. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has also declared a code orange air quality warning for the area. That means that the air might be dangerous for sensitive groups of people — like children, the elderly or those suffering from asthma, heart or lung disease. Try to minimize strenuous activity outdoors.

The temperature is expected to hover around 95 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday, with heat index values as high as 100 degrees. Expect full sun throughout the day. There’s a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m. on Monday, when the low dips down to 73 degrees Fahrenheit. There’s also a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The high is expected reach 91 degrees Fahrenheit that day.
During a heat advisory, be sure to drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting clothing and stay in air-conditioning as much as you can. Also try to check in on relatives and neighbors as much as possible. Familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke — and don’t hesitate to call 911 if you’re worried about heat stroke.
All this being said, if you’re thinking this week seems like a great time for the city’s public pools to open, you’re in luck! The Lawncrest Recreation Center pool will open on Tuesday, kicking off the 2018 swimming season, then a slew of other pools will begin to open on Wednesday. Check out the full list from the city.
