What does a master builder build when building their own home? Take a look.

Back in the 1970s, when I was a callow youth, Anheuser-Busch used to print on Budweiser labels which of its breweries produced the bottle or can of beer you were drinking.

The brewery stopped the practice once people started paying more for Bud brewed in St. Louis on the premise that August Busch drank the stuff himself.

So: how much more would you pay if you knew that the builder of the home you were about to buy built it in order to live in it?

Living room

In the case of this striking contemporary home in Upper Makefield Township, a few miles west of Washington Crossing and a few miles north of Newtown, I’d say it’d be worth a hundred thou or so.

But that’s mainly because the builder produced a truly original work of art with the help of a skilled architect. This home fits its site atop a slight rise in the shadow of Jericho Mountain like a glove, and its interior spaces exude a warmth and unique personality found in a relative handful of contemporary homes.

Pool

This home is part of a development whose six homes split 10.59 acres among them. This means that its lot offers privacy plus great natural landscaping and views, and there’s a creekside gazebo that lets you take them in.

Inside, you’ll find that the Wow! factor begins the moment you walk into the two-story-high foyer. Directly within your line of sight, and separated from the foyer by a hallway bridge, is a dramatic two-story-high sunken living room whose huge wall of windows looks out on the gazebo and creek. Above its built-in shelves is a perfect space to showcase your artwork.

Dining room

Make a 180-degree turn to the right from the foyer and you’ll find the dining room. The stone wall separating it from the kitchen blends the rustic and the modern expertly.

Kitchen

That kitchen, which has a breakfast nook attached, is one of several upgrades made to this home over the years. Its black appliances and warm wood color palette set it apart from the kitchens you’ve seen in just about every other home featured here, as does its smooth-top cooktop and Jenn-Air grilling station.

Family room

Other great spaces in this home include the multi-level family room with its handsome stone-and-copper fireplace, the tile-floored office/library overlooking the home gym, and the indoor saltwater pool with its teak walls and skylights.

Master bedroom

The master suite on the main floor is beautifully outfitted with its own fireplace, a triple tray ceiling, and a bathroom with steam shower. One of the three upstairs bedrooms is an in-law suite with its own kitchen and living room.

Library/home office

This home looks and feels as fresh and inspiring as it did when it was built in 1980, and the upgrades over the years have kept it thoroughly up to date. (To learn about all of them, read the agent’s listing and take the virtual tour there.) If this home had a label, I’d certainly print all of this information on it.
