Don’t Miss Your Last Chance to Wait in Line for a Pizzeria Beddia Pie

After closing his shop this Saturday, Joe Beddia is taking a break — but he’ll be back.

Years ago, the idea of waiting in line for hours in Fishtown to pay $25 for a pizza would have gotten you laughed off of Girard Avenue.

In 2018, we’re counting down the days — four, to be exact — left in which we might have such a privilege.

After Saturday, March 31st, after five years of making only 160 pies a week, Pizzeria Beddia as we know it will be no more.

No more camping out on Shackamaxon Street for 2 hours in line to order your pie and then cooling your heels for another 2 hours before you can eat it, and still having it be worth the wait. No more overhyping from national food media. No more of some of the best pizza we’ve ever tasted.

For a while, that is. Founder and sole pizzaiolo Joe Beddia has said that he’ll be “taking a breather” before opening a much larger Pizzeria Beddia 2.0 — with 100 seats — in Fishtown later this year.

The new pizzeria will be located on the 1300 block of Front Street. That’s not far from the original at Girard and Shackamaxon, which will be converted into a slice shop under new ownership, according to Philly.com.

If you want one last taste (for now) of some pretty damn good pizza, prepare accordingly: in recent weeks, the line has started as early as 10:30 a.m. and the last pie has been claimed by 3:30 p.m.
