It’s steps away from the bustling downtown (spas, boutiques and a movie theater), but is situated on five hedged and manicured acres of gardens and walkways. Play board or lawn games, or park yourself in one of the Adirondack chairs on the wraparound porch for some morning Zen.
What to Eat and Drink in the Hamptons: East Hampton (about a 25-minute drive from the inn) is home to the historic Maidstone hotel and its glamorous restaurant, the Living Room, where colorful plates of Swedish-influenced cuisine, from a sweetbread appetizer and a grilled hanger steak to caviar, are served. (You are in the Hamptons, after all.) Settle into one of the lushly upholstered lounge chairs and ask for some guidance on the impressive wine list, which features lots of bottles from Long Island’s respected vineyards. For lunch in Southampton, grab a sandwich from the Golden Pear Cafe, a sunny Main Street stalwart.
What to See When You’re in the Hamptons: The Hamptons are renowned, of course, for sandy shores, but the island’s interior is equally idyllic. Follow the Montauk Highway to Sears Bellows County Park, a 979-acre section of pine barrens that offers shady, secluded hiking trails and fishing ponds.
Where to Shop in the Hamptons: Downtown Southampton’s Main Street is a hive of boutiques and bric-a-brac worth perusing. Rack rats should visit Ava’s for designer vintage, Homenature for modern home accents, and Simply French for antique silver and linens.
Where to Relax in the Hamptons: Because the Hamptons aren’t the Hamptons without some mansion-ogling, grab a coffee from Blue Duck Bakery Cafe and drive along Meadow Lane for jaw-dropping shoreline estates. Park at Cooper’s Beach for a scenic beach stroll.
