Eagles vs. Lions 2016: Game Time, TV Schedule, Online Streaming, Channel, Odds and More
The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2016 NFL schedule resumes this Sunday as the team is set to play an away game against the Detroit Lions. The Eagles are trying to stay undefeated after starting the season 3-0.
Philadelphia enters this game with the advantage of extra rest. The Eagles didn’t play in Week 4 because they had an early bye. As a result, the Birds are mostly healthy heading into this matchup. Only one Eagles player has been listed questionable on the final injury report.
The Lions, meanwhile, are anything but healthy. Detroit will be without several key starters in this tilt, including defensive end Ezekiel Ansah, linebacker DeAndre Levy, and tight end Eric Ebron. It’s been a rough start to the season for the 1-3 Lions. These significant injury issues could only make matters worse for Jim Caldwell’s team.
On paper, the Eagles are much better than the Lions. Philadelphia owns the best point differential in the NFL (+65). The Birds are looking like a well-coached football team thanks to Doug Pederson. Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz is off to a sensational start. The Eagles’ offense shouldn’t have trouble finding success against a Lions defense that ranks as one of the worst in the NFL. Detroit could especially have trouble dealing with Philadelphia’s three tight end sets.
Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has done his best to downplay the angle he’s seeking revenge against the organization that fired him. Still, Schwartz will want to come out of Detroit with a win. His unit is playing extremely well through three games. The Eagles have allowed the fewest points in the league while also forcing six turnovers and recording 10 sacks. Matthew Stafford and the Lions’ offense should put up a fight. Detroit can move the ball; they rank sixth in yards per game.
There’s no good reason why the Eagles shouldn’t win this game. With that said, the NFL is “Any given Sunday” and nothing is guaranteed. It’s up to Philadelphia to show they are truly the better team this week. Pederson will look to replicate the post-bye week success he experienced first-hand in his time spent with Andy Reid.
