Tony Romo Injury: Cowboys Quarterback Could Return Against Eagles
There’s been a lot of talk about how Eagles rookie Carson Wentz and Cowboys rookie Dak Prescott have played well this season. As it turns out, however, the two quarterbacks may not get the chance to face off head-to-head (this year, at least).
Dallas is targeting a Week 8 return for Tony Romo, according to a report from ESPN. Romo has been out of action since suffering a broken bone in his back during a preseason game in late August. At the time, it was said Romo would miss six to 10 weeks. Romo’s projected return date matches up with that recovery timeline.
Interestingly enough, the Cowboys are set to play the Eagles in Week 8. The game will take place at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Sunday Night Football will be a big stage for an important game between two bitter NFC East rivals. Romo’s potential return only makes matters even more interesting.
But will the Cowboys actually go back to the injury-prone Romo, who turns 37 in April, when the 23-year-old Prescott is off to such an encouraging start? It seems so. ESPN reports the Cowboys “still believe Romo gives them the best chance to make the playoffs and to have postseason success.”
Romo hasn’t faced the Birds since the two teams played a Week 2 game in Philadelphia last year. Romo suffered a broken collarbone and missed most of the 2015 season after getting hit by Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks.
And now a look at some other Eagles news and notes …
THIS IS HOWIE DO IT
According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the Eagles reportedly hoped to trade Sam Bradford for a second-round pick following the 2016 season. Philadelphia’s plan was to compete with Bradford in the short-term while ideally upping his trade value.
Things changed, obviously, when Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season-ending injury and Minnesota came calling. Howie Roseman ended up getting a 2017 first-round pick and a conditional 2018 fourth-round pick for Bradford instead.
Acquiring future assets wasn’t even the best part of the Bradford trade for the Eagles. It’s now evident clearing the way for Wentz to start was more than worth it. Wentz has been sensational through the first three games of his young career.
Roseman deserves credit for the decision to trade up in the 2016 NFL Draft to get Wentz. Thanks to the Bradford trade, he’s also done a nice job of replenishing some of the assets it took to acquire their rookie quarterback. Roseman is sure looking like an early Executive of the Year candidate.
PRACTICE SQUAD SHUFFLE
Two weeks ago, the Eagles signed JaCorey Shepherd to their practice squad and released rookie guard Darrell Greene. The Eagles reversed that move last week, but now Shepherd is back again.
