Drink 4 Beers and Run a Mile: The Brew Mile Is Coming Back to Philly This Fall

And it's bringing another race with it!

Last year, the Brew Mile, essentially a beer mile on steroids, made its Philly debut at South Philly’s Xfinity Live. And if you missed out on the chance to chug four beers while running a mile — a feat you could easily brag about accomplishing for years to come — fear not: The run is making its way back to Xfinity this October. And it’s bringing another run with it!

If you don’t know what a beer mile is, it goes like this: You chug a beer, run a quarter mile, and repeat until you cross the one-mile finish line. (Yes: In my experience, vomit — be it yours or someone else’s — is an inevitable byproduct of a beer mile, in case you were wondering.) Usually, beer miles are pretty low-key affairs done amongst a few running buddies for fun. But like I said, the Brew Mile is basically a beer mile on steroids.

To wit: After the untimed run, there is more beer drinking to be done at a post-run party of sorts. Registration for the event gets you the four beers during the race, plus two more beers (I feel queasy just typing this) afterward, a bottle opener finishers medal (naturally) and a koozie. Spectators and designated drivers are welcome to the festivities free of charge, as long as they’re over 21.

The Brew Mile kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1st, so if you plan on joining in, make sure to clear your schedule for the rest of the day. Because, spoiler alert: You’re probably going to be a bit tipsy. Registration will run you $40 until tomorrow night, when it goes up.

Aaaaand, for all the non-beer drinkers out there, there’s something for you, too! BeerFit, the company behind the Brew Mile, is also bringing their Power Hour run to Xfinitiy on October 1st. The objective of Power Hour is simple: To see how many miles you can run in an hour, running a one-mile loop. This run kicks off at 8 a.m. on October 1st, before the Brew Mile — so if you’re up for a real challenge, you could try for both.

Registration for Power Hour will run you $45 (registration price for this run also jumps up tomorrow night) and gets you a race T-shirt emblazoned with your completed mileage plus two post-race beers.

You can find more info on both runs here.
