SEPTA Bus Driver Attacked in South Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in an attack on a SEPTA bus driver.
Law enforcement officials say the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd when the man seen in this photo was riding the Route 37 bus through South Philadelphia. When he got off the bus near Broad and Passyunk, police say that he argued with the driver and then got back onto the bus, assaulting the bus driver.

On the surveillance video above, you can see the driver struggling with the suspect. The man is accused of biting the bus driver in the face and also punching him and smashing his head into the dashboard.
The Pennsylvania state legislature is considering a bill that would make an attack on a public transit driver an automatic first- or second-degree felony. These types of assaults are typically prosecuted as misdemeanors.
Information on the driver’s injuries was not immediately available. The suspect was last seen wearing dark pants, a light-colored shirt, dark suspenders and sneakers. Surveillance images also show a tattoo on his left arm.
