State Police Are Cracking Down on This Popular Pa. Swimming Hole

Pennsylvania state police say they will begin issuing tickets to swimmers and jumpers who test the waters near Peace Rock, a popular but illegal swimming and cliff-diving spot on the Schuylkill, about an hour and a half northwest of Philly in Hamburg, Pa.
Peace Rock — so-called for the massive, graffiti-painted boulder that projects over the Schuylkill — has long attracted visitors, but local media outlets are reporting that police are cracking down on the location for safety reasons.
One death occurred in the area this year when a 26-year-old Allentown man attempted to swim across the river on July 24th, according to LehighValleyLive.com. Authorities told the news outlet that he started out near Peace Rock.
The area is not open to the public, so trespassers risk tickets and injuries, police said. The State Game Commission has begun putting large rocks along a road where visitors frequently park, the Republican Herald reports.
