Brace Yourself: It’s Going to Get Dangerously Hot and Humid in Philly
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Philadelphia region until 6 p.m. on Friday.
Expect highs above 90 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the next three days in Southeastern Pennsylvania as well as parts of New Jersey. It could feel as hot as 100 degrees in the afternoons.
In addition, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has declared a Code Orange air quality alert in Burlington and Mercer counties, meaning air and ozone pollutant levels are high.
As one would expect, the NWS advises people to stay inside or in the shade during this time, have cool drinks on hand, wear loose-fitting clothing, and use fans. Senior citizens, children, those with asthma, and those with lung and/or heart conditions should stay inside, especially during the air quality alert.
If you are concerned about neighbors or relatives who are senior citizens, you can call the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging Hotline at 215-765-9040. The line will operate from 11 a.m. to midnight Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. to midnight on Thursday and Friday.
