Trump: Chris Christie Could Be My Vice President

He didn’t come close to winning the presidential nomination, but Chris Christie could be your next vice president.

According to a Donald Trump interview with the Associated Press, he has narrowed down his VP slot to “a very good list of five or six people.” In the interview, he did not rule out selecting New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as his VP.

Earlier this week, Trump announced Christie would chair his transition team. (Oddly, the press release said to contact the governor’s office for comment. Asked why that was the case, the governor’s office told Gawker: “We’re trying to figure that out ourselves.”)

The vice president has no real formal duties besides breaking a tie in the Senate and taking over for the president. But he often acts as a surrogate for the commander-in-chief. And who better to play-act as Donald Trump than another brash loudmouth famous for yelling at teachers and protesters and whose campaign slogan was “Telling It Like It Is”?

Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told the AP the presumed Republican nominee is vetting the VP candidates himself along with a small group of advisers that includes former presidential candidate Ben Carson. In his interview with the AP, Trump also planned to remake the Republican National Convention this summer into more of a spectacle: “The concept of some entertainment from a great singer, a great group I think would be something maybe to break things up.”
