Chiefs GM: Pederson Will Be A ‘Wonderful’ Coach

INDIANAPOLIS — Soon after Jeffrey Lurie hired Doug Pederson, the Eagles owner recognized how big of a role Andy Reid played in Pederson getting the job. According to Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey, Reid is also the reason Pederson is apt to succeed in Philadelphia.

“He’s been around the game of football for a long time,” Dorsey said. “Any time you can take a coach and you develop your skills as a high school coach and then you work up the ranks and all of a sudden you’re lucky enough to get into pro football.

“I think it’s always important who you get with in this whole process, and he was lucky enough to get with Andy Reid. And he began to see how to process and how to build certain things and how to build a team.”

Both Dorsey and Pederson arrived in Kansas City in January of 2013 after Reid was named the Chiefs head coach. However, their history together goes back two decades.

While Pederson was a backup quarterback for the Packers from 1995 to 1998, Dorsey worked in the scouting department. Pederson was Kansas City’s offensive coordinator for three seasons before the Eagles hired him, and he confirmed that he will call plays in Philadelphia.

“The play-calling component of it, I think Doug will do a fabulous job,” Dorsey said. “What I’ve seen with Doug is, he’s built a really good staff. I love Doug, I can’t wait to see what he does. I really think he’ll do a wonderful job.”
