Phillies Renew WIP Radio Deal
It’s February. The weather stinks. There’s no more football to watch on TV. Our hockey team is mediocre at best and our basketball team is laughable. But on the horizon the weather is warm and the familiar voices of Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen are talking about the one thing we can all agree on: baseball.
The Philadelphia Phillies and SportsRadio 94WIP announced that they’ve extended the broadcast partnership for live play-by-play coverage of Phillies games. The announcement was devoid of much detail at all: It didn’t include financial terms or even the length of the deal.
One thing has changed from last year: The games will no longer be simulcast on 1210 WPHT. Apologies to anybody who gets nostalgic about hearing the game with lots of AM radio static.
The rest of the broadcast is the same. Announcers Franzke and Andersen are returning (when are they going to put those guys on TV already? They’re like a young Harry and Whitey. Somebody please give Tom McCarthy a national broadcasting job so he can just go away.)
Sorry… Jim Jackson is also returning. The station will continue to broadcast half-hour pregame and postgame shows before and after each game.
Hard to believe, but the first Spring Training game against the University of Tampa is just 11 days away at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.
