Police: Upper Dublin Resident Lost Her Gun While Jogging
Just yesterday we brought you a story about Kensington’s Urban Education Academy’s lockdown after a school officer’s gun was stolen from his car. The officer’s firearm has yet to be recovered, according to Philadelphia Police spokeswoman Tanya Little.
But there’s another investigation into a missing gun, this one in Abington Township. The Abington Township Police Department wrote a Facebook post Monday night warning the public of the firearm lost in the Ardsley and North Hills sections of both Upper Dublin and Abington Townships.
Abington police say that an Upper Dublin resident lost her gun while jogging this past Saturday evening, January 30th.
“Abington and Upper Dublin Officers, along with police K-9 and metal detectors, conducted an extensive search of each block along the reported route,” the post said. A second search of the area on Monday did not result in locating the weapon.
The jogger’s route, which the police scoured, went something like this: “northbound on Fitzwatertown Rd to Susquehanna Rd; eastbound on Susquehanna Rd to Maple Ave.; southbound on Maple Ave to Limekiln Pike; southbound on Limekiln Pike back to Fitzwatertown Rd.”
To make matters worse, police are not certain that the gun was lost in Abington Township.
“Because Upper Dublin is still investigating this case, and the weapon has not been located, residents are reminded to use extreme caution if you come across this firearm and immediately notify police,” the Abington Police Department’s post said.
While the extensive hunt for the missing gun continues, Abington police are using the issue as an opportunity to promote gun safety education. In the Facebook post, the department encourages parents to discuss gun safety with their children, including the fact that they should “NEVER touch a gun, and immediately notify an adult if they see one.”
Comments on the post ranged from serious concern about the weapon’s whereabouts to debates on gun control, while some commenters simply expressed gratitude to the police for bringing their attention to the situation.
