Listeria Outbreak Linked to Dole Packaged Salads
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced today that they’ve linked a six-state Listeria outbreak that started in July of 2015 to Dole packaged salads produced at the company’s Springfield, Ohio processing facility. The Listeria outbreak sickened 12 people, including one person in Pennsylvania, and killed one.
According to a press release, Dole has suspended its operations at the Springfield production facility and the company is voluntarily withdrawing packaged salads produced at the Springfield facility from the market. The packaged salads were sold under a variety of names: Dole, Fresh Selections, Simple Truth, Marketside, The Little Salad Bar and President’s Choice. All of the affected bags have the letter “A” at the beginning of the manufacturing code found on the upper right-hand corner of the package. Pennsylvania and New Jersey are both among the long list of states included in the withdrawal.
So, the takeaway: If you find you have a bag of the Dole salad, which could be packaged under any of the names above, listing a manufacturing code starting “A,” trash it. You can see the CDC’s full report here.
