Wynnefield Man Charged With Killing 82-Year-Old Father

The Philadelphia Police Department has announced the arrest of a 29-year-old West Philadelphia man, who has been charged with killing his own father.

On Wednesday afternoon, police were called by medics to the home of 82-year-old Solomon Gethers on the 5700 block of Woodbine Avenue in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia. There, they found Gethers in an upstairs bedroom with stab wounds to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, investigators found the murder weapon and arrested Gethers’ son Victor for the crime. Police say that the two were involved in an argument and that it ended with the son fatally stabbing his father. Pennsylvania court records show that Gethers has only had minor brushes with the law in the past, including arrests for fighting and shoplifting.

In 1996, Gethers’ son David died in a plane crash at the age of 31. He was working toward becoming a professional pilot when his single-engine plane crashed in Texas.
