Kenney Names New Airport CEO

Mayor-Elect Jim Kenney wasted no time in naming a new CEO for the Philadelphia International Airport. Just three days after Mark Gale retired, Kenney named Chellie Cameron CEO.

“There are few in the aviation industry with more experience and expertise than Chellie Cameron,” Kenney said in a statement. “Her service in the Air Force and her work overseeing three airports in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia has all been exemplary. I know that as CEO she will not just provide excellent customer service, but also create a fair, supportive work environment for our employees.”

Cameron is currently chief operating officer at the airport. She was appointed to that position in December 2014 but has been with PHL airport for five years. 

For 13 years, she worked with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which is responsible for operating and maintaining Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport. She also served as an officer in the United States Air Force for seven years and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree from Auburn University at Montgomery.

Gale started with the PHL airport in 1985 as an intern. At 53 years old, he’s hoping to spend time with his wife who recently retired after working for years at an airline. But after that, there’s a good chance he’s back in aviation.
