This week’s adoptable running dog, Helen, is a young pup who has a special love for pounding the pavement, and just so happens to be deaf. You can find more info on her (and see super-cute photos!) below.

Name
: Helen

Age: 1 year and 8 months

Breed: Pit bull mix

Size: 60 pounds

Background: Helen came to Street Tails Animal Rescue as a puppy. She was adopted but recently returned when her adopters could no longer care for her.

Running style: Helen is an excellent running partner. She runs with a slow trot and can handle between three and four miles with her Monster Miler friends. It is unclear whether or not she could ever work up to a long run, but the pure joy that she exudes while she’s running would make her a great partner for someone who sticks to shorter runs.

Why Helen is awesome: Helen is incredibly sweet and gentle. She is deaf, and prefers to get to know new people very slowly, so she can be a little shy at first. However, once Helen has bonded with you, you will be buddies for life! And again, she REALLY loves running. Her excited sprint when you first start out is exuberant enough to keep a smile on your face the whole way through your run. A bonus to adopting Helen is that she is already housebroken and has exceptional manners (except when chasing squirrels).

If you’re interested in adopting Helen, you can find her at Street Tails Animal Rescue in Northern Liberties. You can fill out an adoption application here, or contact them by phone (267-761-9434) or email. And for more awww-worthy photos, check out our previous adoptable running dogs here.

…………….

We work with The Monster Milers each and every week to profile local running dogs waiting to be adopted. The Monster Milers are a group of runners who help shelter dogs burn off  energy and get much-needed exercise by taking them on runs around the city, and they also just launched their first-of-it’s-kind Adopt a Running Buddy foster program. If you’re not in the market for a pup right now, but would still love to help out homeless dogs, you can always become a Monster Miler volunteer or foster parent. Find out more about how to get started with those processes here
