Eagles Notes: Chip Kelly Says No Trades Coming

The NFL trade deadline is this afternoon at 4 p.m., and a couple of teams have already made moves.

There have been rumblings about the Eagles looking to move Vinny Curry, but Chip Kelly denied those rumors when he addressed the media Tuesday for the first time since the Eagles’ loss to Carolina in Week 7.

Does he expect any players to come in or go out in a trade?

“No,” Kelly said.

Has Vinny Curry’s name come up in trade talks with other teams.

“No,” Kelly repeated.

In just under four hours, we will know if Kelly was telling the truth.

As far as the players who took the NovaCare practice field on Tuesday, the team is fairly healthy after the bye week.

“Everybody will go today except for Jason Peters,” Kelly said. “Hopefully we’ll get [Peters] back tomorrow or the next day, but everybody will go. Then we’ll have to monitor and see how they do going forward.”

Peters was warming up with the team and had his helmet on during warm-ups, which is normally an indication that a player will participate in some way.

“[Peters] made progress over the bye,” Kelly said of the veteran left tackle, who was injured in the loss to Carolina. “He got treatment, made progress. It looks like he’s moving around, so we’ll see. He may do some of the things today, but he won’t be in drills.”

Another player to monitor will be Kiko Alonso, who hasn’t played since the Eagles’ Week 1 loss to Atlanta because of a knee injury.

In Alonso’s absence, rookie Jordan Hicks has emerged as a rock in the team’s linebacker corps, which will make the decisions at inside linebacker interesting if Alonso, Hicks, and Mychal Kendricks are all available for Sunday’s showdown with the Cowboys.

“We’ll see that they’re healthy, first,” Kelly said of his inside linebackers. “Their first day back on the field is today, so we’ve got five days of training. Who takes to it, who doesn’t take to it. If somebody pulls up lame on the second day, if someone pulls up lame in Thursday’s training session.

“We’re going to manage [Alonso] today. All those guys are going to go out, they’re going to run around, and then we’ll get feedback from Shaun [Huls] and Chris Peduzzi in terms of how they handled the workload today. Do we increase the workload? Do we back off on the workload? They haven’t been out there. There’s not any predetermined thing. They’re going to go out there, and we’ll see what they do, and we’ll go from there.”
