#RainedOutinPHL? No! #OpeninPHL!

Hurricane Joaquin's "cone of uncertainty" has shifted east. We're still expected to get a lot of rain, but of the major outdoor events this weekend, only Opera on the Mall was postponed. Even the in-water boat show in Atlantic City is still on!

The first weekend of October is supposed to be filled with wonderful weather and delightful fall festivals. Unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating. But so far most of Philadelphia’s outdoor events are still on! We don’t let the weather get us down here in Philly!

The good news: The National Hurricane Center‘s “cone of uncertainty” has moved to the east. The chance for a destructive, costly storm — Hurricane Joaquin is a Category 4 hurricane with sustained max winds of 130 miles per hour — have dropped. The bad news: Phillywx (a must-follow at times like these) writes, “That does not mean the next few days won’t suck, especially at the Shore, due to onshore flow and heavy rain.” They’ll be coastal flooding at high tide down the shore. It will be rainy in Philadelphia until Saturday afternoon.

There’s a lot of outdoor festivals and parades this weekend — and, in a case of a particularly bad coincidence, an in-water boat show in Atlantic City. We’ll keep you updated on the likelihood of their postponement or cancelation here, but for now most things are staying on.

The Atlantic City In-Water Boat Show started today at the Golden Nugget and Farley State Marina. That’s ON, per the PR team at Golden Nugget. (I know!) Michelle Gabe says the in-water boat show has also been extended to the following weekend, October 9th to the 11th. Tickets purchased for this weekend are good for next weekend if you’d rather not look at boats in the rain tomorrow. It’s $10, and one ticket is good for both weekends.

Opera Philadelphia has RESCHEDULED its performance for Independence Mall on Friday night. The concert has been moved to October 16th. All tickets purchased for Friday’s Opera on the Mall show are good for the rescheduled one.

The annual Bloktoberfest on the west side of South Street is ON. “If you are a veteran Bfest Head — you know, we GO rain or shine! How? Beer Food Music Philly… and tents… a lot of tents,” they wrote on Facebook. “Last year, it was generally drizzle all day — 12K of you showed up, hung out, partied and had a great time — so watch the weather, be prepared.”

As for the Midtown Village Festival, they’re also ON rain or shine. Also, if you’re going to either Bloktoberfest or the Midtown Village Festival you might as well hit both. Run in the rain from one to the other!

Also ON this weekend: The Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, per a Facebook post. That makes sense: The rain we’re experiencing now is expected to stop by Sunday. The Pulaski Day Parade should also be on as well, then.

Meanwhile, the Eagles game in Washington could either be moved to Detroit or postponed until November or simply played this weekend at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.

Chip Kelly said today the team hadn’t been told of any rescheduling plans, and was preparing as if it would play as scheduled on Sunday at 1 p.m. Birds 24/7 has more on the weather and this weekend’s game.
