Surprise, Surprise: Smithers Is Coming Out

Like this will surprise anyone: Everyone’s favorite little queer character from The Simpsons appears that he’ll be letting his bow-tie loose and will officially come out of the cartoon closet. All I can say is: It is about time!

The Huffington Post is reporting that Smithers will finally announce that he’s gay during the upcoming season of The Simpsons. The article claims that he’ll “come out” over the course of two episodes.

Color me shocked, but this shouldn’t be a huge surprise for anyone who has followed the cartoon for any period of time. What is interesting is producers told TV Line that the show plans on doing “a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.”

Hmmm…who else in Springfield is gay? I’ve always had my suspicions about Milhouse, but that would be quite the age difference. Only time will tell!
