The Captive at Physick House
The Fringe Festival doesn't officially start till Thursday, but Philadelphia Artists Collective are debuting their Fringe contribution a few days early. On Tuesday, the curtain will go up on their latest, The Captive, a show that, when it was staged in 1926, was censored for its worldly subject matter. It concerns a woman named Irene, whose "quiet devastation sparks a chain of events that will shake the foundations of her otherwise tidy world.” Will it still resonate the way it did in the ’20s? It’ll be fun to find out. September 1-20, 8 pm, $25, Physick House, 321 South 4th Street.

Sharon Needles at Kung Fu Necktie
If you like your drag with an extra side of shock-factor, head to Kung Fu Necktie on Thursday night to see Sharon Needles (aka Aaron Coady). The avant-garde diva made a name for herself on the Pittsburgh performance art scene before going on to take the top prize on season four of RuPaul's Drag Race. Since then, she's taken her act on the road and released an album that hit No. 9 on Billboard's Dance / Electronic Albums chart. She'll be joined in Philly by local drag performance troupe Haus of Ham and rock group The Homophones for a night that’ll be anything but your typical Gayborhood drag. Think of it as a nice pre-gamer for your Fringe Festival experience. Thursday, September 3rd, $20-$50, Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 North Front Street.
