Malvern Prep Sex Scandal: Here Are the Emails a Counselor Allegedly Sent Her Student
Malvern Prep is one of the Philadelphia region’s most prestigious schools, with a price tag to match: A four-year high school education will cost you over $120,000. But now the school finds itself at the center of a sex scandal, allegedly brought upon it by 40-year-old Emily Feeney, who worked as a swim coach and director of college counseling until she was recently fired.
The accusations are laid out in a criminal complaint made available by the Chester County District Attorney’s Office. According to that complaint, Feeney, who lives in Wayne, repeatedly sent inappropriate, “highly sexualized” messages to a male student at Malvern Prep beginning in 2014 when he was 16 years old. The boy told investigators that Feeney’s advances were unwelcome but that he played along because she had offered to help him get into Harvard, and he didn’t want to hurt his chances.
According to the criminal complaint, the boy told police that Feeney sent him selfies of varying degrees of inappropriateness, including two photos reviewed by authorities. In one photo, Feeney is seen wearing a black bikini and in another, she is topless.
Police say that Feeney sent the boy hundreds of emails from her Malvern Prep account and that many of them are sexual in nature. And even after the boy attempted to dissuade her from continuing — “Im not interest in you end of story Im 16 Im not into you,” he wrote in 2014 — she allegedly persisted for the next year.
Here are some of the messages she is accused of sending to the minor:
Do I get a hug when I see you… How far can I push that?
I’d send you the sunburn photo I posted to Instagram but that might not be a great move for my career.
Obviously this is very emotional for me and I feel raw.
I miss you! I don’t want it to be this way forever.
You are gorgeous and this is killing me.
If you don’t respond to me in another week, I will pull you aside.
If you’d… Just stop fighting and let it happen, you’d be a lot less uptight and much happier.
Feeney also forwarded the boy an email she purportedly received from Harvard University about him, in which the sender says he would “definitely be a likely letter candidate” and that “he’d be on the top of our list.” She allegedly ended that email by saying, “you… owe me big time. And no high fives.”
The Chester County District Attorney has charged Feeney with institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of a minor — all felonies — as well as indecent assault. Bail has been set at $75,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 2nd.
According to a school document, Feeney was hired by Malvern Prep in April 2013 and prior to that worked in the admissions departments of Princeton, Barnard and Columbia.
Malvern Prep did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
