Eagles Notes: ‘Kiko’s Fine’
Yesterday, Chip Kelly said he wasn’t worried about Kiko Alonso’s concussion because the linebacker does not have a history of head injuries. Bill Davis echoed the head coaches sentiment this morning during his press conference and also talked about the team’s depth at linebacker.
- Alonso is still working through the concussion protocol, but Davis said linebacker injuries are fairly common during training camp.
“I don’t think I’ve been through a training camp as a linebackers coach where the inside ‘backer [group] doesn’t get thin at some point,” Davis explained. “I don’t know what it is about training camps, but when that happens, it’s nice to have the depth we have.”
As for Alonso’s recovery, Davis downplayed the severity of the injury.
“Kiko’s fine, it was just one of those things,” said Davis. “I’ve been coaching linebackers my whole career and its just part of that position, when it just sneaks up on you nowadays, we have a great protocol, so it’s not an issue, Kiko’s doing great, he won’t miss a beat.”
- After Travis Long tore his ACL earlier in camp, people were worried about the Eagles depth at outside linebacker, but Davis said they are starting to move some of their inside linebackers to the outside to compensate.
“Right now, [Brandon Hepburn] is almost there, he’s there the majority of the time,” Davis said. “And Brad [Jones] will continue to switch and [Emmanuel] Acho, he kind of pops back and forth.”
Davis also said they have given Vinny Curry some reps on the outside.
- Some news came out of St. Louis this morning as Nick Foles talked to the media about his time in Philadelphia, and his supposed trouble dealing with criticsm and Jeff Fisher explained his reasoning for trading Sam Bradford. Paul Domowitch of the Daily News was out there to get the scoop:
