If you’re going to be down the Shore this August, we have one date you’re going to want to mark down on your calendar, stat: Sunday, August 9th. That’s when the first-ever Stone Harbor Surf and Turf 5-Miler is going down, and it’s going to be prettttty different from the 5-milers you’ve run in the past.

The race, which supports Alex’s Lemonade Stand, will take you on the sandy shores of the beach for the first 2.5 miles and on the road for the other 2.5 miles. So, it’ll be a bit tougher than your average 5-mile city run — helloooo, sand — but totally worth it.

To lessen the impact on your calves, runners can also opt to team up with a partner to run the 5-miler relay-style, with one of you taking on the beach stretch and the other taking on the road stretch. Or, if that still sounds like the worst to you (because August heat) you can also opt to run a 1-mile beach run — and then jump in the water as soon as you cross the finish line.

It’ll cost you $35 to register for the 5-Miler solo (the price goes up after July 31st), $60 to register as a relay team, and $20 to register fort the 1-mile fun run. You can learn more about the race and register here.
