Cecily Tynan Says She Ran a Marathon Faster Than Mike Rossi

[ORIGINAL, 4:23 p.m.] On Monday, we told you about the $100,000 that LetsRun.com offered to Montco’s Mike Rossi if he could match his controversial 3:11 time in the race that qualified him for the Boston Marathon. (Long story short: A lot of people think Rossi cheated, Rossi says he didn’t, and the organizers of that race issued a very carefully worded statement saying that there was no “conclusive evidence” that Rossi didn’t run the race in the time recorded for him.) Well, now avid runner and beloved 6 ABC meteorologist Cecily Tynan has jumped into the fray, telling us that she’s run a marathon even faster than Rossi’s disputed time.

On Tuesday, Tynan took to Facebook (where else?) to express her concerns about the accusations of cheating. Here’s what she had to say:

As a runner and, more importantly, a mom who tries to teach my kids the importance of honesty and good sportsmanship, I find this story very compelling. What do you think?

The commenters spilled in, and it’s fair to say that there are far more Facebook folks condemning Rossi or at least expressing skepticism than there are supporters.

So, since Tynan decided to use her vast social media platform to ask her followers what they thought, we thought it only appropriate to ask her what she thought of the Rossi marathon controversy.

“I’d LOVE someone to offer me $100,000 to run a 3:11 marathon,” she wrote in an emailed response. “I ran a 2:54, 3rd woman (Disney World Marathon), and all I got was a Mickey Mouse trophy! If his Boston qualifying time at Via was legit, he should be able to run that time again (especially with the $100,000 motivation!) It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out, that’s for sure.”
