UA Riverview Debuts Its New IMAX Theater This Weekend
An auditorium at UA Riverview is getting updated with new equipment that’ll give South Philly movie goers a closer alternative if they’re looking to see a film in the larger-than-life format known as “The IMAX Experience.”
According to a release from Regal Entertainment Group (REG), the Columbus Boulevard cineplex installed an IMAX digital projection system, a specially designed IMAX screen and a “powerful audio system delivering laser-aligned digital sound.”
“The IMAX digital projection systems showcase Hollywood blockbusters that have been digitally re-mastered into the unique image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience as well as original documentary-style IMAX content,” reads a release. “Films are projected on a specially designed screen that is slightly curved and moved forward to further immerse the audience.”
The new theater kicks off Friday with a screening of Jurassic World, Steven Spielberg’s box-office-destroying latest installment of the Jurassic Park series starring Chris Pratt. REG says that will be replaced by upcoming blockbusters like Terminator Genisys, Ant-Man, Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Up until now, the only other IMAX option in town was the Tuttleman Theater at the Franklin Institute. There are also IMAX screens at AMC Franklin Mills and UA King of Prussia.
