Water Main Break Causes Flooding in Hunting Park
We just got finished telling you that water main breaks are on the rise, in the, ahem, wake of this weekend’s gusher in West Philly. Now this: A water main broke at a Hunting Park shopping center at Fox Street and Roberts Avenue this afternoon. The 48-inch main cracked, putting the parking lot under water, 6ABC reported.

According to the network, the Philadelphia Water Department arrived around 2:45 p.m., and the Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter. Firefighters are reportedly still on the scene helping to evacuate kids from the area. Several parked cars are up to their headlights in the brown, murky water.
The ShopRite grocery store and Ross clothing outlet were still in the process of being evacuated at the time of ABC’s report. A dollar store and Planet Fitness location were evacuated.
Philly Mag has reached out to the Fire Department and the Philadelphia Water Department for more information. As of publication, fire crews were still on the scene assisting with the Water Department, which is in the process of turning off the main. A representative from the department said that everyone in the shopping center — with the exception of ShopRite employees — has been evacuated from the area. They expect to know more — including how much water was dispersed — after the line is turned off. More information as it becomes available.
