Outdoor Summer Concert Series Returns to Penn Museum This Month

Wednesday nights are eclectic in University City. For the sixth year in a row, Penn Museum welcomes the Summer Nights Series Concerts to Philly. Come and enjoy outdoor concerts every Wednesday night from 5 to 8 pm in the Stoner Courtyard. The event is free to Museum members and for children under 6. General admission is $10, which includes admission to the Museum. The Penn Museum’s International galleries will remain open during concerts, and there is and option to attend a docent-led mini tour in between sets starting at 6:30 p.m.
The series begins on June 17th and runs until September 2nd. Prepare for a summer lineup packed with something to satisfy a wide range of musical cravings.—from Afro-Caribbean calypso and vintage rock ‘n’ roll, to Afro-Brazilian pop, and jazz-age standards. The Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble kick things off on the 17th with acoustic tunes inspired by a 20th-century mandolin orchestra. The band comprises five artists, each rocking on a different mandolin instrument. Their songs draw from jazz, swing, bluegrass, folk, and world music.
Eleven more bands will succeed the Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble including, the Afro-Brazilian band Xande, Zydeco-A-Go-Go, funky musicians from Louisiana, and Middle Eastern artist Farah Siraj.
To make an entire evening of it, The Pepper Mill Café is located above the courtyard and offers light fare and beverages you can enjoy in outdoor bistro-style, stage-front seating or on the lawn. Green urban gardens and marble fountains create an ambience appropriate for a romantic dinner and family ones alike.
