Ask the Expert: I Got a Save-the-Date to a Wedding, But No Invitation. What Do I Do?

Q: Months ago, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a save-the-date to a wedding I wasn’t expecting to be invited to, but am quite excited to attend—except we’re now four weeks away from the Big Day and I haven’t received an actual invite. Should I reach out to the couple in case the invite has gone missing? I’m just a bit nervous about this in case they decided, after all, to cut me from the list since the save-the-dates have gone out.
A: If you received a save-the-date, your attendance at the wedding was more than likely intended, says Philadelphia wedding planner Sarah Morrison of All About Events. “The invite could have been lost in the mail, at the printer, or maybe it’s still on its way,” she says, and you don’t want to wait until they’re wondering where your RSVP is to uncover any mishaps.
“I suggest sending a simple note to the couple letting them know that you were excited to receive their save-the-date, but have not received an invitation and wanted to check in, as you were planning on joining the celebration!”
