Eagles Fire Three From Personnel Department

The day after the regular season ends is known as Black Monday as teams around the league waste no time in firing their head coaches.

As Daniel Jeremiah has explained, the Monday after the draft serves the same purpose for scouts. Teams don’t want to get rid of people in their personnel department earlier because those guys have information pertaining to the draft. But once the final pick is made, organizations move forward.

To that end, the Eagles have let director of college scouting Anthony Patch, director of pro personnel Rick Mueller and Southwest area scout Brad Obee go, according to Les Bowen of the Daily News.

The moves directly correlate to what happened back in January when Howie Roseman was removed from the personnel side and Chip Kelly hired Ed Marynowitz. At that time, everyone aligned with Roseman had to know they were in danger of losing their jobs.

Patch spent 13 years in the Eagles organization. In 2012, he was promoted to director of college scouting. Previously, Patch served as assistant director of college scouting and a college scout.

Said Roseman on the Eagles’ Web site: “Anthony is our longest-tenured scout in the building. His career is an example of what hard work and loyalty can lead to,” Roseman said. “He has an excellent eye for talent, great relationships throughout football and he is as hard-working a guy as you will find.”

Mueller was named director of pro personnel in 2012. He had previous stops in New Orleans and Jacksonville. Obee had been with the Eagles since 2009.

The implications are straightforward. This is the Kelly/Marynowitz show now. They’re going to bring in their own guys and make sure everyone is doing things their way.
