Meet Ruby Lou, This Week’s Adoptable Running Dog
It is taking every ounce of strength in my body not to dash out of the office and go scoop this sweet gal up at PAWS myself. I mean, that face, you guys! But Ruby Lou isn’t just a pretty face: She’s sweet, down for pounding the pavement, and even more down for cuddling afterward. Learn more about her below.
Name: Ruby Lou
Age: 1 to 2 years
Breed: Pit-bull mix
Size: 38 pounds
Background: Ruby Lou was found as a stray. She’s currently available for adoption through PAWS.
Running style: Ruby Lou is already proving herself to be a solid and focused runner. She starts out a little fast but quickly settles in and doesn’t get distracted. During a recent outing with a Monster Miler, she responded to verbal encouragement to keep running instead of getting sidetracked by other dogs or zig-zagging. She’s working on shorter distances at the moment but has the potential to start building her mileage to join you on some medium-distance runs.
Why Ruby Lou is awesome: Ruby Lou is the ultimate adaptable dog. She’s just as happy curling up next to you to watch the Phillies on TV as she is to leash up and go on a run with you. She’s a cuddle bug and a sweetheart who loves to climb into laps for extra love and pets. She’s good on her leash and knows some commands like sit. She’s also good with other dogs and children, but PAWS isn’t sure about cats yet.
You can find out more about Ruby Lou (and other adoptable animals) here. If you are interested in adopting her, you can email PAWS at dogs@phillypaws.org, call them at 215-298-9680, ext. 16 or fill out an application here. Ruby Lou’s animal ID is A26999566. ………..
We work with The Monster Milers each and every week to profile local running dogs waiting to be adopted. The Monster Milers are a group of runners who help shelter dogs burn off energy and get much-needed exercise by taking them on runs around the city, and they also just launched their first-of-it’s-kind Adopt a Running Buddy foster program. If you’re not in the market for a pup right now, but would still love to help out homeless dogs, you can always become a Monster Miler volunteer or foster parent. Find out more about how to get started with those processes here.
