No Joke: You’ll Get a Free John’s Roast Pork Sandwich for Running This Race
If your calendar’s free and clear on Saturday, April 18th, I have a very good idea for how you can fill it: The Be the Match Walk and Run, a chip-timed 5K race and 1K walk, is headed to the Philadelphia Navy Yard, and organizers are offering participants free sandwiches from John’s Roast Pork as a pretty sweet incentive.
It’s a pretty straightforward deal, actually: After the race, runners are invited to head over to John’s Roast Pork (14 East Snyder Avenue in South Philly), where, if they show an email confirmation, participant t-shirt or race bib, they’ll be eligible for a small pork, meatball or roast beef sandwich on the house. That’s it! And by the way, the free sandwich deal is also available to event volunteers, so if lending a hand is more your bag, you’re in luck.
The Be the Match Walk and Run benefits Be the Match, an organization that helps people with life-threatening blood cancers or other diseases receive the marrow or cord blood transplant they need. The race costs $30, but you can use the code “Pork” to score a $5 discount. Fundraising is encouraged.
By the way, race packet pickup is happening at Chickie’s & Pete’s in South Philly on April 17th from 12:30 to 6 p.m. There, runners will be able to score happy hour drink and food deals for the full duration of packet pick-up time.
