One 15-Year-Old Arrested, Another Wanted for Murder of Dog-Walking Overbrook Man

On Thursday morning, we reported that police had two teens in custody for the shooting death of 51-year-old Overbrook man Jim Stuhlman and that the arrest of a third male — believed to be the shooter — was imminent. And later in the day at police headquarters, Philadelphia Police Department Homicide Captain James Clark announced an arrest in the case.

Police have arrested 15-year-old Brandon Smith, a student at Overbrook High School, and charged him with murder and robbery. An arrest warrant has been issued for 15-year-old Tyfine Hamilton, a freshman at Overbrook High School, and police say that he will be charged with murder and robbery. They believe that Hamilton pulled the trigger on Thursday night near Stuhlman’s home on Woodcrest Avenue, when Stuhlman was out walking his dog. Both of the 15-year-old suspects have “robberies in their backgrounds,” says Clark. A 14-year-old allegedly involved in the crime is cooperating with police, said Clark, and he is expected to be arrested soon and charged with lesser offenses.

“He said, ‘Please don’t shoot me, please don’t shoot me,'” said Clark when asked whether Stuhlman pleaded for his life. According to Clark, there was a slight struggle and then Stuhlman was shot. Nothing was taken from Stuhlman. “Which makes this even more senseless and troubling,” said Clark.

Clark explained that two police officers spotted the teens on Wednesday after a description went out. A foot chase ensued.

Police say that Hamilton should be considered armed and dangerous.
