Barney Frank at the Free Library
Out former congressman Barney Frank comes to the Free Library to discuss his new memoir, Frank: A Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriage. In the book, Frank opens up about his two of his greatest attractions: politics and men. He writes about how "he resolved to make a career out of the first attraction and to keep the second a secret.Now, fifty years later, his sexual orientation is widely accepted, while his belief in government is embattled." State Representative Brian Sims is holding a town hall meeting for his constituents, where he encourages questions about anything from what projects he's working on to how he handles the stressors of local politics. Stimulus screens Standing on My Sisters' Shoulders in honor of Women's History Month. This movie is about the Civil Rights movement in Mississippi, told through the eyes of the women who took part in it. There will be a Q&A with Director of the Mayor's Office of LGBT Affairs Nellie Fitzpatrick following the film. An Evening with Larry Kramer
Spend an evening with a true LGBT icon. Larry Kramer is an LGBT and HIV/AIDS activist, co-founder of Gay Men's Health Crisis, author, Oscar-nominated screenwriter, and playwright. HoneyTree's Sisters Reunion
Peek-a-Boo Revue’s Scott Johnston’s monthly burlesque party will roll out the rainbow carpet to host an evening of entertainment by many of the performers that used to grace the stages, poles and bar tops at Sisters. The evening's performance lineup was curated by Dr. Timaree, who, under the moniker HoneyTree Evil Eye, founded Sisters house dance troupe the Sisters Sirens. Among those she's bringing back will be Peek-a-Boo Revue’s Ginger Leigh, who used to perform with the Sisters Sirens; pole dance artist—and Sisters Sirens co-founder—Sara, and performance artist Qhoiyn B Allure. The evening will be MC'd by Christa D'Agger and—are you ready for this—legendary Sisters DJ Trish will provide tunes in between acts.
